Chorus wins Australia Day Award 2012

We were delighted and greatly honoured to receive the 2012 Australia Day Cultural Award from Redland City Council.

This award is given to individuals or organisations for their significant achievement in and contribution to arts that enhances arts, culture and entertainment in the Redlands, and have given freely of their time, knowledge and enthusiasm to promote the welfare and wellbeing of the Redlands. It is an award given by the Redland City Council each year to recognise outstanding residents of the Redlands.

Redland Rhapsody Chorus performs at many public and private events in the Redlands and Brisbane City. We love to bring our style of four part harmony singing and vibrant showmanship to the community and entertain our audiences.

Thanks to the Redland City Council for honouring us with this award.

“Christmas By Starlight” Show .

Time: 3pm – 8pm Place: Norm Price Park – Redland Showgrounds, Long Street, Cleveland.

See us performing every night from Friday 16^th to Friday December 23^rd at the exciting

Myer Christmas Parade And Pantomime in Brisbane CBD

Redland Rhapsody will be part of two-hundred singers, dancers, and actors who will be merrily making their way along the Queen Street Mall, beginning at Edward Street from 7pm and ending at the stage in front of the Myer store.

The star of the parade will be a Christmas angel. There will also be a nativity scene with barnyard animals. The evening will finish with a fantastic fireworks display.

19 November:

See us at the big welcome Parade for Father Christmas at Victoria Point Shopping Centre on Saturday 19th November at 12 noon. Bring the kids to hear us sing and join in the fun.

3 December:

If you enjoy dancing to a really great live band and want to hear us sing, come along to our fundraising dance on Saturday 3rd December at the Memorial Hall, Smith Street, Cleveland from 7pm. The Urban Swing Band’s fabulous sound will have everyone rockin’. Click here to book your tickets.

10 December:

Hear us sing at Redland City Council’s “Carols By Starlight” on Saturday 10th December at Cleveland Showground. This popular annual event starts mid afternoon with various events and finishes with a concert and Christmas carols.

10 December – 24 December:

If you like to hear Christmas carols sung by real people instead of piped music, shop at Victoria Point Shopping Centre during the two weeks leading up to Christmas Eve. See us from 11 am to 3pm week days, 6pm to 8pm Thursdays and Saturdays 11 am to 2 pm.

19 - 24 December:

Going to Brisbane City Mall for the Christmas events? You’ll see us there too between 6 and 7 pm!

Redland Rhapsody Chorus is a member of a world wide network of Women’s choruses on five continents. In early 2012 every Chorus is having a free Open Day to welcome women singers to ......well.....check us out to see if you’d like to join us.

We’re having ours on Saturday 4 February from 1 pm to 4 pm at Alexandra Hills. You are also invited to join us for two weekly rehearsals. Redland Rhapsody Chorus members were thrilled to receive a record high score in national competition and achieve fifth position. In total twenty three Choruses from all over Australia, some larger than us, some smaller, sang their hearts out to impress a panel of international judges. We received particular praise for our beautiful singing, high energy, expressive performance and elegant costumes.

We compete every two years. In Hobart in 2009 we competed with 31 singers on stage. This year we had 43 singers, thirteen of these being first timers who joined the Chorus within the last eighteen months. Our director believes these talented new members made a big contribution to our success, bringing fresh ideas and enthusiasm.

Our chorus is a Chapter of Sweet Adelines International, the largest organization for women singers in the world with a membership of over 27,000 spanning ten countries. Through our Director and international coaches we strive towards excellence through the musical education and personal development of members and our exciting performances. We are women from all walks of life who love the fun and friendship of singing together.

No sooner is competition over than we begin rehearsing new songs and revisiting some older ones to prepare for our very popular Show to be held early in 2012. Redland Rhapsody Chorus Shows are well known for wonderful singing, vibrant choreography and the variety of talented guest performers.
